Devastated by the Nov. 5 mass shooting at First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas, Brad Beldon, CEO of San Antonio-based Beldon Roofing Co. is leading an effort to raise $2.5 million to rebuild the church for its members and the community.
“We cannot erase the horrific memories, but we can provide a place of worship, a place of hope, a place of healing, and a place of prayer for our fellow human beings,” Beldon says.
Beldon, a third-generation San Antonio resident has set up a Rebuilding Sutherland Springs, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising the $2.5 million needed to rebuild First Baptist Church along with a new park where the damaged church now sits. A board of directors for the organization has been established.
The campaign raised more than $1 million during its first week.
Specifics of when and where the new church will be built will be left to First Baptist Church’s leadership.
“None of us knew anybody. We’re just San Antonians, Texans, and we wanted to help,” Beldon said in a recent television interview. “If not us, who?”
NRCA members can make donations to Beldon’s effort to rebuild First Baptist in Sutherland Springs, Texas, through the National Roofing Foundation. NRCA will match all contributions up to $10,000.
